Trinamool joins INDIA protest in Parliament against Centre’s 'SIR' law

Amid the ongoing monsoon session, Trinamool Congress MPs along with the INDIA alliance staged a strong protest inside the Parliament complex on Friday. The demonstration was against the Centre’s proposed “SIR” bill — a law that allegedly threatens the federal structure by allowing central investigative agencies to operate in states without permission.

Holding placards that read “Save Constitution” and “Save Democracy,” MPs accused the central government of interfering in the autonomy of states. Trinamool leaders Sudip Bandyopadhyay and Derek O’Brien said the SIR bill was nothing but an attempt to "legalise" central overreach and bypass state governments.

The proposed “Federal Investigative Rights” bill has triggered concerns among opposition-ruled states, particularly Bengal. TMC MPs warned that if passed, the law would give the Centre unrestricted authority to send investigative agencies into any state.

Opposition parties under the INDIA bloc have announced plans to resist the bill both on the streets and inside the Parliament. A heated debate is expected in the coming days, with Trinamool making it clear that it will not compromise on state rights.
